Ioannis Mantas
I am an R&D Engineer at Planlabs in Zurich, developing algorithmic software for automated building technology planning. I have a PhD in Computer Science and specialize in algorithm design, optimization, and software development.
My academic background gave me a strong foundation in algorithms and computational geometry, while my industry experience has sharpened my ability to turn ideas into well-engineered software systems, primarily using C++ and Python.
I enjoy working across the full development cycle: understanding the problem, designing the algorithmic approach, implementing it cleanly, testing it carefully, and deploying it in production. I am especially interested in problems where analytical thinking, geometric reasoning, optimization, and software engineering meet.
Outside engineering, I have competed internationally in sports, served in the military, and taken part in community initiatives. These experiences have shaped the way I work: with resilience, adaptability, collaboration, and a desire to contribute meaningfully.
Following, there is a short description of my education and work experience. There is also a list of my publications, some projects that I have been working on, and my talks and teaching activities related to my stay as a PhD candidate at USI. You can also read my latest news which I try to keep up to date!
